Who We Are

Foothills Symphonic Band was founded in 1991 with the intention to play challenging and varied pieces which would set us apart from other bands. We wanted to present fun and engaging music for everyone to enjoy. One of our goals was to commission new pieces by contemporary composers. The first piece that we performed on our first concert was a fanfare composed for us by Bill Gleichmann. That first concert was in the Bill Reed Middle School auditorium. We had about two dozen in the band and half that number in the audience.

Approximately 20-25 years ago the band decided to expand its repertoire towards more popular forms of music, such as movie soundtracks, Broadway songs, and big band music. The popularity of this pivot inspired us to rename the band “Foothills Pops Band”.

30 years later we have grown to include 50 members composed of local adult musicians who volunteer to create music for our community. We have also found our way back to our origins and are currently performing as the Foothills Symphonic Band once again! We perform 4 concerts each year as well as our Love and All That Jazz annual fundraiser and dance designed to keep the band going and offer to the community the chance to dance at a live event with a big band! Our concerts take place at the CSU University Center for the Arts Griffin Concert Hall and tickets cost $8.
